Aim:

Understand the effects of physical activity on the liver ageing phenotype.

Research Overview:

There is a growing amount of evidence suggesting that changes in liver function, specifically the accumulation of liver fat, precede conditions like Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This study will look at how physical activity influences liver function across our lives. This study will use magnetic resonance techniques, exercise testing and metabolic studies to understand if a sedentary lifestyle accelerates the liver ageing phenotype.

Research Importance:

This study will look at the effects of low levels of physical activity upon liver function, a key determinant of lifelong health and wellbeing.
